Welcome to the German Shepherd Dog Club of Atlanta

Spring Match rescheduled to May 18, 2014
see you there!

ABOUT THE CLUB

Records are vague, but it seems that The German Shepherd Club of Atlanta was founded in the 1956 when a small group of breeders and owners interested in the German Shepherd Dog met in Atlanta Georgia. The first president was Mrs. Michelle Leathers Billings. Their purpose was the improvement of the breed. Today the Clubs goal is the same. Through programs and activities members learn about all aspects of the German Shepherd Dog, including mental and physical development; the breed standard, working ability, breeding, care and rearing of puppies, etc.

Programs are presented at monthly meetings held on the second Thursday of month, except for July, October and December.

The meeting is at 8:00 pm unless changes are published in the Guardian. Both prospective members and non-members are welcome. The club holds numerous special events including two breed Specialties shows each year, which includes Obedience and Rally. Puppy matches, Temperament Testing and AKC Good Citizen tests are often scheduled through the year.

In July, at the Annual Awards Banquet, trophies are presented to members whose dogs have earned titles over the year. A Holiday party is held in December. If there is an interest, show handling classes are offered to members.

We invite you to join us in exploring the world's most versatile breed. You can learn more about the fundamentals of this great breed, what constitutes the proper diet, how to groom and much more by attending our monthly educational programs.

An obedient, well mannered German Shepherd is a pleasure to own. The Club offers 6 week obedience and rally training classes as well as fun matches and picnic get togethers. There are also Club members that participate in the sport of Schutzhund and can offer guidance in that venue. In the fall watch Members compete in American Kennel Club Events such as conformation, obedience and rally.

Would you like to know if your Shepherd has herding instinct? Take a trip up to Cumming GA with us and test your dog! We can also assist you in finding a German Shepherd puppy through our referral program.

The German Shepherd Dog Club of Atlanta meets monthly on the second Thursday at 8PM except for December, July and October at the Atlanta Humane Society located at 981 Howell Mill Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. Please come and join us.
